Why a Community Heat Network???

Updated: Aug 6, 2021

Every day in our village 165 boilers are ignited several times a day, heating cold or tepid water to the temperature we all need to heat our homes and shower. It takes a lot of energy to heat up cold water.

According to the energy saving trust 'Boilers are responsible for 60% of domestic carbon dioxide emissions'

Surely there is a more efficient way to heat up villages and towns? Surely we could heat Upper Heyford more effectively, keeping enough hot water warm to feed the demand that the 165 households need. Imagine how much fossil fuel we are all burning heating our homes independently.

Fuel poverty is a serious issue and as fuel providers increase their tariffs and governments increase the taxes on fossil fuels this is likely to become a real problem for many of us. That is what we are investigating a community heating scheme.

Heat Upper Heyford believe there is a more economical, more environmental, more sustainable way to approach heating. This is why we are applying for the RCEF funding to investigate what alternatives there are.
